More Scoring for SSFPIV + 2 Back Burner Projects

Hi all,

Just a quick update for you all this month...

More Scoring

Since I finally posted the main theme / opening track from the Short Songs For Patrons IV / Clockmaker project here for patrons (have you heard it yet?), I've been madly scribbling and scoring short songs to fit part I of the story.

I've sneaked a bunch of patron names into the story, using a random draw to pick which name goes where. Didn't want to play favourites. Haha!

The music for this project is a mixture of dramatic/intense and classic/romantic. A lot of modern scores for film, video game, etc. sound pretty samey to me. Some of them are quite good, no doubt, but not unlike pop music, everyone's using the same techniques and it's kind of boring. This is why I'm leaning into a more classic sound. There's something about those film scores by John Williams, Bernard Hermann, George Bruns, etc. that I just love and I'm trying to capture a bit of that spirit with these short songs.

Back Burner

There are a couple new projects I've been rolling around. While I focus on SSFPIV, though, they're still just in idea phase, which basically means whenever something comes to mind, I write it down then leave it be for now.

The first of these is revisiting my old pseudonym and music project, cloudy, with occasional rain. The first album I ever released was from this project, back in February 2003. I wanted to work on a revisited version for the 20th anniversary. Maybe that means a complete redo, maybe it's just some remixes. Not sure yet, but it's something I want to dedicate time to, once I can.

The other is live performance. I haven't performed my original material live in front of people in years now (except for a handful of livestreams in 2020). So the wheels are turning on how to present a new style. I want to do something a little more pop-adjacent with this. Not sure what it all looks like yet. More to come, eventually.

That's about it, these days. 99% of my time is SSFPIV/Clockmaker stuff and I really like how things are turning out. Because the tunes are short, I should be able to share some more stuff with you in the coming days and weeks.

Thanks, as always, for being a part of this journey. It feels really great to be able to create some fun, unique stuff for you!
