Secret Download Page
I created a page on my website to share Michael's Regret (or whatever, in the future) with folks ahead of release date. I've been using this to share with a few music forums, facebook groups, friends, radio hosts I know, etc. I usually do this straight through bandcamp so I can track it a little better, but that's too much work. This way, I can just set one page, ask people not to share it and send it to specific folks.
Radio Promo
You might remember that I'm a volunteer Regina Community Radio host. There's an excellent resource that came up at the start of COVID to share music directly to community and college radio stations and specific shows. I always share new releases there before public release and it always generates some significant airtime, which is just excellent! Where else on the radio would you hear short songs made for specific people but community radio? Support your local community radio, folks!
Social Experiment
I've been struggling with social media a lot these days. It just gets worse and worse in terms of quality, security, far-right craziness, hyper-targeted ads, and the recent threat to remove Canadian media entirely from Meta (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and Google.
Social media is a very big part of promoting and talking about art these days, so despite kind of hating it for the last 10 years, I've just sucked it up and kept on being part of the machine. After all, I've got a new album coming out in just weeks and two more on the way.
Recently, however, I've been diving into the Fediverse. I won't get too long-winded about it here, but it's essentially decentralized (no one owner, open-source) social media with no ads and no algorithm to try and game. So far, I kind of love it! People are friendly and interactive. It kind of feels like the internet was back in the '90s.
Anyway, long-and-short, after using a personal account to noodle around and really liking it, I just created a an account. This will certainly replace my Twitter account. I want nothing more to do with that hellhole. We'll see if it replaces Facebook too.
Next step: de-Googling my life.
Clockmaker Pt II
Not surprisingly, I haven't had a ton of time to work on the actual music this month, but that'll shift shortly. I'm just about done with all the promo stuff.
Thank you so much, as always, for sticking with me on this journey. It's a long haul and so much of it is behind-the-scenes. I'll get better posting more of that content for those of you who want it.
Reach out anytime,
Chris
