A reel-to-reel tape recorder

Hi gang,

I guess summer is over now, right? Hope you had a great one in this weird COVID's-not-over-but-no-one-cares landscape. The older I get, the more I hate living in a cold climate. Now I just dread the horror I know is coming. At least cold weather means I can get more work done, because there's less reason to leave the house!

I've got a big update for you! Here's where things are at with SSFPIV:

Score

Part I of the story has been done for a few weeks now, so I started working on the music a couple of weeks ago. The main theme is written and ready to be recorded/produced. It's short - under 2 minutes, but it took a relatively really long time to write! I wanted to create something catchy enough to be memorable, but not so simple that it sounds dumb or boring. This took so much editing and a totally scrapped idea. Yeesh! I really like the result though, and I hope to get it to you ahead of the bulk of the songs.

Story

I think I mentioned already, last month, that part I of the story is done. The idea was to switch and focus solely on music, but every time I find myself with downtime - away from my studio, where I can actually write and record musical ideas - I've been working on part II of the story and I think it's going pretty well! I'm getting anxious to actually have you guys read this, but there's a lot of work to go, yet.

Coding

I'm coding the story into LaTeX for easy reading and portability. I'm not focusing a ton of time and energy on this, to be honest, because it will be easy to pull together at the last second. I am, however, still learning the odd trick on how to pull this off seamlessly. Read: I'm watching YouTube videos for handy tricks.

How I'm incorporating patrons

Unlike previous SSFP projects where I've dedicated a song to each patron, I've been sneaking your first names into the story via places and interesting things (think: "They went to the store on Sarah Street.").

Timeline

My hope is to have part I complete and in your hands this fall/winter.

I'll never do SSFP in summer again. This has been an exceptionally busy warm season. Call it post-lockdown mania. I did everything I could this year! It's always been a little tricky getting all this work done during summer, but taking on this big a project during the busiest holidy/social time of the year has been tricky. I'm trying to balance so I don't burn out, but the biggest lesson I'm learning is to do this in the fall/winter. 😅
