Chiptune Stuff, Pro Help, 2022
Hi all,
Another busy month over here. I've been chipping all those tunes, turning SSFPIII into an all-chiptune/8-bit versions album. I'm about 90% done and loving the way these tracks are transforming into crazy old school video game-esque tunes!
Why chiptune?
I've always had an affinity for that sound. For me, it hearkens back to a time of staying up late, playing Super Mario Bros with my brother, hanging out at the neighbour's playing Zelda on NES, renting TMNT or Mario Paint (which had it's own composition program, by the way) from Blockbuster... Man! Those were the days.
Most of the new chiptune stuff I hear nowadays is just mimicking modern dance/pop music. Frankly a lot of it sucks. It all sounds like the same over-produced schlock we've been subjected to for the last 20ish years. 🤮 So I wanted to make something that holds the spirit of those beloved old games from the '80s but is also kinda weird and not quite as perfectly polished. And FFS, no boring dance music! 🕹
Pro mixing/mastering
I've always shied away from hiring external help for mixing/mastering my tracks. It's expensive, everyone considers themselves an expert and I've learned enough to do a pretty OK job - enough that I just skip the extra cost. Well, I think I'm going to do it: I'm going to get some help mixing/mastering the chiptune project. These 8 bit sounds are a bit unruly, and I think I need some pro help taming them into something people may actually want to listen to more than once. I need help. There. I said it. I'm already talking to some pros to guide me through the next bit.
2022
The aim is to have the chiptune project complete by mid/late-winter. There's still some work to do on my end (still 4 tracks to complete before sending everything for mixing/mastering).
I've also got plans for SSFPIV, as well as a totally new project, to be revealed, likely, in late winter/early spring! It's going to be another busy year.
Thank you, as always, for your support! It means the world to me that you are along for this journey. You truly and literally give me a reason to keep creating stuff, and for that I am so grateful!
