April 2019 Music Recommendations

I'm doing things a little differently this month. Since I started this music recommendation thing on Patreon, I wanted to make listening to a playlist as streamlined as possible, opting to use a couple of the biggest music streaming services: Spotify and Google Play Music (sorry itunes users - I don't have it and wasn't going to start for this).

Any other problems aside, the biggest thing that I don't like about this is that I don't believe in their business model at all. They're just another way to screw artists (do some googling - it's bullshit).

This is a big part of why none of my music is on the giant music streaming services. Instead, I release everything solely on bandcamp nowadays. So why share these monthly playlists on music streaming sites that give less than a shit about music and paying artists?

There's far more to this topic, but I'll save it for another time.

To get to the point, this month's music recommendation includes only music that is on Bandcamp. Some of these artists may choose to also include their music in the big streams (largely out of fear of not being found by their audience), but some are strictly independent, and - more importantly - all of them are just hustling to get their art in front of an audience that cares.

All this said, this playlist will take a little more clicking (ie, you'll have to click on each track below to go to it's specific bandcamp page to hear it), but I promise it'll be worth it.

This is a collection of what I've been listening to lately.

Enjoy the playlist, and please remember to support the artists that you like. :)

  1. Claude Fontaine - Play By Play
  2. Ethnic Heritage Ensemble - Pharoah
  3. Orchestra Gold - Djama
  4. Brandee Younger feat. Ravi Coltrane - Love's Prayer
  5. Kikagaku Moyo/幾何学模様 - Fluffy Kosmisch
  6. Endless Column - Endless Column Summer
  7. Dwight Trible - Tomorrow Never Knows
  8. Ot to, not to - Blanc
  9. Tomáš Niesner - Deconstruction of the View
  10. Tim Hecker - In Mother Earth Phase
