New Music: Ervin & Jacqueline

Chris Carlier · Ervin & Jacqueline

I've always wanted to write a song for my grandparents.

Ervin and Jacqueline Carlier are central figures in my life, of course. I'm lucky to still have them at their age (90s)! Even though I think about them every day, I don't call as much as I should or would like to.

My grandfather is a towering man; broad-shouldered and nearly 2 meters tall. He used to pick me up and swing me around like a rag doll until I was in my teens! He's represented in the cello.

My grandmother stands in stark contrast, around 150cm, probably 35 kilograms, soaking wet. Our family matriarch is small but mighty. Her word is law. She's heard in the violin part.

They're both kind and loving, and very family-centered.

I have countless memories of visiting them, out in the county, over the course of my life and have missed them dearly over the pandemic.

I wrote this short, sweet and somewhat wistful little melody for them.
