If a sound could make you think you were drowning while standing on a  gravel road, it would surely be the dark, distorted, horrific cries of  Toronto-based Helen Hartley. Her particular mixture of ’90s goth rock meets drone metal meets industrial rock meets grunge feels like a wormhole to a dark recent past. A wormhole into which you willingly  throw yourself.
